Ian has made academic presentations at seminars and conferences on subjects relating to jazz. He recently completed and defended a dissertation study as part of his doctoral studies at the University of Toronto.  This project studied a trend in performance practices among younger jazz musicians in the Toronto scene. He also maintains a blog with writing and posts about music and culture.
